Redmer Hoekstra is Netherland Based ( Dutch ) illustrator born in 1982 on the shores of the North Sea. He studied illustration at the School of Fine Arts in Zwolle and he continued his word after graduating in 2009. Inspired by giants of art as his compatriot Maurits Cornelis Escher and Catalan Salvador DalĂ, has been forged stroke to stroke a style that has earned him national awards and recognition of the Dutch artistic movement.
Redmer Hoekstra had a wild imagination back then, remember having all kinds of fantasies about how the world worked, growing up that imagination was shutting down but resurfaced and stronger in art school. It took about thirty hours to complete a drawing, which distribute in attempt four days to not go crazy.
Redmer says that, I remember in art school tried everything, painting, animation, clay, digital drawing, etc. But nothing finally convinced at all, I admit it was a very useful experience. But finally I returned to my old and dear fineliner pen. Knowing what the different media can help a lot, gives you another perspective drawing but I feel more comfortable. and pen offers me the possibility of a finer finish. Each object has to be drawn differently, each has unique features, such as : metal, wood, hair or muscle. In this sense the pen, for me, is unrivaled. In my hands a brush is infinitely less accurate. Particularly important in my work it is that for example, a crocodile skin look real to the surreal look of the piece has a greater impact. Many people to see my works respond with surprise. Your brain first tells them that " it is a bird , " but when they have a second look, only then consider that it is actually a whistle. That is why it is important to achieve as realistic drawings possible, because only then, through that contrast the viewer gets that impact.
